“International engagement is an integral part of the professional life of almost every scholar. Unfortunately, a busy schedule does not always allow one to participate in every event to which one is invited. Yet there are conferences that are simply impossible to decline.
For me, one such event was the International Conference Translation at the Crossroads of Ideologies and Cultures, organized by the Department of Translation Studies and Interpreting of the Faculty of Philology at Vilnius University and held on 18–20 June 2026.
Hosted within the historic walls of Vilnius University, the conference brought together an impressive community of distinguished scholars whose presentations offered much food for thought. Among the many topics discussed, the most memorable were those devoted to theoretical perspectives on translation, the work of outstanding translators during periods of repression and concentration camps, translation in times of war, and crisis communication within the patient–doctor–interpreter triad.
My sincere gratitude goes to Professors Nijolė Maskaliūnienė, Ingrida Tatolytė, and Dalia Mankauskienė for the impeccable organization of the conference, their continuous support of participants, and the exceptionally warm and welcoming atmosphere they created throughout the event.”
Yuliia Demianchuk
“The conference was an academically stimulating and inspiring event that brought together scholars representing a wide range of research directions, theoretical perspectives, and methodological approaches. It provided an excellent platform for sharing ideas, engaging in meaningful discussions, and fostering an open and friendly exchange of views.
The warm and welcoming atmosphere contributed greatly to the success of the conference, making it not only intellectually rewarding but also a truly enjoyable experience. The event was exceptionally well organized, and I would like to express my appreciation to the organizers for creating such a productive and inspiring academic environment.”
Nataliia Rudnytska
“This conference has been a real opportunity to present my research and listen to others' research in a fascinating engaging environment. The diversity of the research topics and the variation of the research methods have added an invaluable insight into the field of translation studies and have enriched the academic discussion.
I am personally looking forward to participating in future conferences held by the Department of Translation and Interpretation Studies at Vilnius University.”
Rafat Y. Alwazna
“I have been working on translation history for about five years and this has been one of the best conferences I have attended so far. I really appreciated the variety, originality and relevance of the presentations, as well as the nice and open discussions in the panels.
I was also impressed by the capacity of the panel chairs to make communication smooth when there were presentations both in Lithuanian and English.”
Miguel Ángel Guerra Blázquez
“The conference was brilliant in showcasing both senior researchers in the field and their innovative and very thought-provoking lectures AND a multitude of younger scholars, presenting enthusiastic yet rigorous work and showing us new angles to look at translation and interpreting.
... Extremely important and relevant topics were discussed and one was only hoping there would have been more hours in the day, or more days, to be able to attend the many intriguing-sounding presentations which, however, overlapped with others, equally curiosity-arousing talks.
... The very warm welcome we were given by the organisers, together with the incredibly friendly, communicative and supportive atmosphere, created a real sense of community.”
Outi Paloposki
“Translation at the Crossroads of Ideologies and Cultures conference was very informative, representative and of great value to current research. The coverage of the impact of GAI on translation and interpreting, studies and practice, was significant in this age of breathtaking technological developments.”

“The conference was outstanding in every respect: the organization, both in the lead-up to and throughout the days in Vilnius; the thoughtful design of the sessions and the choice of topics; the social events and meals, made even more special by the live music, sometimes performed by the organizers themselves; and the culturally rich setting of Vilnius, an ideal place to discuss Translation, Cultures, and Ideologies.
My deepest thanks to the organizing team and to all the participants for creating such an engaging, stimulating, and productive atmosphere.”

“I am not a frequent conference-goer—perhaps once every few years, and rarely at large events. So I was all the more impressed by this one. The organisational strength, the management, and above all the passion behind it were evident throughout.
Ingrida and Dalia took a genuinely personal approach, attending to every detail and every participant with care. It made a lasting impression.”
